Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering & Products

What products do you sell?

We are an authorized FCI Watermakers dealer offering the full FCI product line, including the DTS+Mobile spot-free dockside treatment system, the Max Q+ double-pass framed watermakers, and a range of accessories including UV sterilizers, media filters, remote monitors, TDS meters, pH neutralizers, and replacement filter kits. We also offer marine HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical services.

Are you an authorized FCI Watermakers dealer?

Yes. Kaiwi Makai Marine is an authorized FCI Watermakers dealer. All products are genuine FCI equipment, and we can assist with warranty claims and ongoing service support.

Can I get a consultation before ordering?

Absolutely — we encourage it, especially for high-ticket systems. Use our Request a Consultation page to schedule a call with our team. We will help match you with the right system for your vessel, location, and use case.

Shipping & Delivery

How do watermaker systems ship?

The DTS+Mobile and Max Q+ systems are large, heavy items (125 lbs+) that ship via LTL freight carrier. A flat-rate freight charge of $495 applies for the contiguous United States. Hawaii, Alaska, and international shipping requires a freight quote — contact us before ordering.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days and then coordinated with FCI Watermakers for fulfillment. Freight lead times vary, but most domestic shipments arrive within 5–10 business days after processing. We will provide tracking information once your order ships.

What should I do if my shipment arrives damaged?

Before signing the delivery receipt, inspect the packaging carefully. If any damage is visible, note it on the delivery receipt. Contact us within 48 hours at info@kaiwimakaimarine.com with photos. Do not refuse delivery — accepting and documenting the damage is required to file a freight claim.

Do you ship to Hawaii?

Yes — we are Hawaii-based and are experienced with inter-island and mainland-to-Hawaii freight. Freight rates to Hawaii vary and require a quote. Contact us before placing your order.

Installation & Service

Do the watermaker systems require professional installation?

The DTS+Mobile is a portable, plug-and-play unit that connects to a standard dock water hose — no permanent installation is required. The Max Q+ framed watermaker does require professional installation. Kaiwi Makai Marine offers installation services throughout Hawaii.

Can I install the system myself?

The DTS+Mobile is designed for simple self-setup — just connect your feed water hose and plug in. For permanent system installs like the Max Q+ framed unit, we strongly recommend professional installation to ensure ABYC-compliant wiring and plumbing.

Do you offer service and maintenance?

Yes. Kaiwi Makai Marine offers ongoing service, troubleshooting, and maintenance for FCI systems in Hawaii. We also carry genuine FCI replacement parts and filter kits. Contact us to schedule service.

Warranty & Returns

What warranty do FCI products carry?

All FCI Watermakers products are covered by FCI's manufacturer warranty. As an authorized dealer, Kaiwi Makai Marine will assist you in coordinating any warranty claims with FCI directly. Contact us at info@kaiwimakaimarine.com for warranty assistance.

Can I return a system if it doesn't work for my application?

Due to freight costs and the nature of these systems, watermaker system sales are final once shipped. We strongly encourage a pre-purchase consultation to ensure the right fit. Unused accessories in original packaging may be returned within 30 days. See our full Refund Policy for details.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes — orders can be cancelled before they ship. Contact us immediately at info@kaiwimakaimarine.com. Once an order has shipped, our standard return policy applies.

Technical Questions

What is TDS and why does it matter?

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids — it measures the concentration of dissolved minerals, salts, and other particles in water (in parts per million, or PPM). High TDS water leaves spots and residue when it dries on vessel surfaces. The FCI DTS+Mobile reduces TDS to as low as 5 PPM, eliminating water spots entirely.

What's the difference between the DTS+Mobile Lite and the standard DTS+Mobile?

Both models produce spot-free water and share the same core technology. The standard DTS+Mobile adds an on/off touch control switch and an auto shutoff feature for added convenience. The Lite model is $6,250; the standard model is $7,500. Both are available in 120 VAC or 208-240 VAC.

What voltage do I need?

Both DTS+Mobile models are available in 120 VAC (standard US household/dock power) and 208-240 VAC (higher-voltage dock service). Check your dock or vessel's available power supply before ordering. If you're unsure, contact us for help.
